There is no sense in which that is fascism. Fascism is intensely dangerous. Removing enforcement discretion is not.
@RadioFreeTom is right. These people want to live in exciting times, to further their own stories, without the pain and Terror exciting times always produce.
This sort of ridiculousness doesn't even rise to the level of histrionics. It is so divorced from the real dangers to our system that it invites apathy as a direct response.
We are a fat, graying, lethargic excuse for society. We lack the energy, wherewithal, and interest to form the sort of militarized ethno-nationalist synthesis of state and Civil Society necessary for fascism.
What are we going to do, co-op all 217 males under age 18 in this country into the Trump Youth?
Maybe the crack Nonagenarians for Trump will be that elite, up-and-coming strikeforce on which a good fascist State depends.
Democracy does not die in darkness. Democracy dies, snoring gently, on the couch after the news is over, trying to figure out what to watch that nice young Jimmy Fallon kid, or maybe some of those angry people on the other channels. Also, Democracy wants its cocoa now, please.
We play act millenarian fantasies because our lives are devoid of the excitement and adventure we are sure prior generations had, and people on backlit screens have.
Excitement and Adventure are great in the telling by those old enough to smooth down the rough edges of memory with a fine sandpaper of time. They suck to live through.
We live in a society of perpetual adolescence, whose members are sure that adventure will make them into the men and women they cannot be otherwise.
One more thing. If you look at the history of the rise of populist and quasi populist tyrants and dictators, a few common threads appear. One of these is that proto tyrants tend to be middle-aged, fit, cunning, and energetic.
Here, middle-aged does not mean what contemporary Americans seem to think, which is roughly 55 to 80. In real life, middle-aged means about 35 to 55.
The enormous mental and physical stamina required to grasp that horrible Brass Ring is not trivial; one needs both physical fitness and sufficient wisdom and strength of will to succeed.
The current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is over 70, fat, and is not gifted with enormous physical and mental stamina. Even if you think he's clever, he lacks those two traits.
There is no appreciable danger that Donald Trump will be the fascist dictator of the United States. He is likelier to be a president who dies of a heart attack in his second term.
Be far more concerned with a man who achieves the Imperial office in his early forties, with little regard for constitutional formalities in the face of what he believes to be the greater good.
