This is a story in more than one part, but then I think that would suit J.R.R. down to his boots.

(1)I was in Ireland, I was 20 years old, and I was on a missions trip. First time overseas, first time missionary, first time to Ireland
(2) At first, the team dynamics were great, the idea behind it was great, and helping others was great. But fast forward six weeks. Team dynamics were souring, the situation was intolerably soul-squashing, and I was trapped on the other side of the sea from home.
(3) Then my team leader and his new wife went on their belated honeymoon and asked me to take care of their cat. She was my excuse to get away and disappear during free-time. I even fell asleep more than once, listening to the rain on the roof with the fluffer beside me.

So, I'm in the second week of Kató Lomb's method of language learning and I haven't seen something as good as this so far. I'm using it for my fourth language, which I already had some experience with and had tried many different methods that got me nowhere.
So, first, who is Kató Lomb? I came across her by accident when reading some listicle about famous women polyglots. She was Hungarian and one of the first simultaneous interpreters of the world, worked professionally with around 16 languages.
What I found most interesting was, having previously graduated in physics and chemistry, she pivoted her career and started learning that many languages rather late, when she was around 30 and, given few exceptions such as japonese, most of her languages she acquired by her own

Tolkien fell in love with Edith, whom he would eventually marry, when he was sixteen. They would sit together on the second floor of a tea shop and throw sugar lumps into the hats of passersby. When they ran out of sugar, they moved to the next table. True love, folks, true love.
The Tolkien's love story really is sweet. At the request of his guardian, Fr. Morgan, Tolkien didn't speak or write to Edith from when he went to Oxford until he was 21. The day he turned 21 he wrote &proposed to her. She broke off her engagement with another dude & said yes.
This separation was probably good because at the beginning of his studies he was a bit distractible. But, near the end of his degree, when they were engaged, Edith would write, promising a certain amount of kisses per hour of work he got done. If that isn't the cutest thing!!!

From the first press release, we know this so-called #LOTR series will NOT be a retelling of the events of the War of the Ring. #BeenThereDoneThat

Instead it will be Appendices based and cover a lot of time and history. /2
This is the greatest advantage the show runners have: that so much of Tolkien’s storytelling, even just in “Appendix A,” covers a tremendous swath of time.

Starting with a young Aragorn narrative allows connections to his Numenorean bloodline (and to the founding of #Gondor). /3
