Every now and then a bunch of pro-life publications try to tell me and everybody else what I believe about abortion. They are lying. This post sums up my views well if you care about the truth: rachelheldevans.com/blog/pro-life-…
P.S. Noting that an abortion ban would disproportionately affect poor communities of color, and calling Trump-supporting pro-lifers to a more holistic & consistent ethic on racial justice in light of that, is not “arguing for eugenics.” I thought that was obvious.
It strikes me that perhaps more than any other issue, the conversation around abortion in the US has been commandeered by the most extreme positions on either side, when polling suggest most Americans hold far more nuanced views on the ethics & legalities involved.

Happy Christmas! A lot of folks are sending me this story, so a few quick thoughts. First, I’m honored and pleased that Bishop Budde quoted me in her (excellent) sermon. She’s one of the best preachers I know. chasingchurches.com/2018/12/25/pre…
Second, I’m glad she didn’t change her message of God’s love for the marginalized, and specifically refugees (among whom are counted the holy family), just because the president was in the room. That takes courage.
Third, as @jackmjenkins notes, this message was not inappropriately political. There are millions of Christians in this country who believe the Bible teaches hospitality to refugees & immigrants and who see in the incarnation God making a home among the marginalized.

It’s DAY FOUR of the Kavanaugh hearings how we doin friends?
The format for today's hearings is different with 5 panels of witnesses, some from the GOP and some from the Dems. Senators will likely shuffle in and out today
Some folks have asked what happens next. Well, the Judiciary Committee has to vote first. Dems have few procedural tools to block a committee vote but they could delay it. That would put it sometime around the 20th or so of September my my rough morning math

okay friends, let’s sit down and have a talk, because it is definitely time.
FACT: There is absolutely no way that the next Trump appointee won’t vote to overturn Roe. That’s inevitable. Work from that assumption.
Other fact: We don’t KNOW for sure that Roberts would overturn Roe, but it’s probably safe to assume he will. Yes, he likes “precedent” but obviously we’ve hit “court can do what it wants” status these days.

Ms McArdle, first of all, thank you very much for this intereting column, and for taking the time to actually address some of the quetions it generated. It's a rare pleasure to see someone as interested in engaging with the opposite side as you obviously are.
Now, if you allow me, being a liberal-leaning individual, I feel compelled to play the unlikely role of a Dr Jordan Peterson and discuss the points in which your analogy fails -- because they are just as interesting as those in which it works.
1. Political orientation as tribe/race/gender. Indeed beliefs correlate (call these correlations "Weltanschauungen"), but in a much less perfect way than biological taxa, genders, or cultures--basically because the former are more consciously felt and structured than the latter.
