6) For context, a supervillain getting chased by a group of idiot superheroes filming a reality show in an attempt to flee ends up blowing up a school full of children.
7) Pretty extreme, yeah. The result is a media and public outcry backlash against superheroes, with the demands for people with superpowers to register with the government or be treated as criminals.
8) It goes SO FAR, that they build a super prison in one of the several equivalents to hell innhe Marvel Universe to hold the most dangerous superheroes that refused to register... and then throw Daredevil, who’s power is seeing even though he’s blind, in there.
9) The pro-registration side has a mom who lost her child running around as the spokesperson, people are throwing massive protests, the media is broadcasting it, Human Torch is attacked by a mob with a beer bottle and put in a coma, all that jazz.
10) Sound hauntingly similar? This was published in 2006. The Marvel writers of today would demand I be lynched for making a conparisonnofnthr pro registration side to the left on the gun control debate.
11) But Captain America’s speech, intentionally or not, rings true. See, standing AGAINST the mob, standing AGAINST the press, standing AGAINST the tide, that’s what America is about.
