@FoldableHuman (the "optimal receiving tower" is a joke aside from having the correct drop distance; obviously a tower of that height would be a danger in itself and the sane solution is to build both platforms at sensible heights on near-level ground)

"... not long after the 2012 election." This is a critical point that Seth has rightfully pressed harder than almost anyone -- Trump didn't just up and decide to run in 2015. This was planned, with the Russians, quite a bit before.

Job market candidates in Econ/Finance out there? Some tips on finishing up

You should have a rough draft at this point, a good sense of what to do to polish everything up, and a plan with your advisors on how to do that.

If you don't - make a final push or wait until next year
By the time the semester starts, you should have:

1. A JMP draft (see @JohnHCochrane's guide: faculty.chicagobooth.edu/john.cochrane/…)

2. A good deck (see @paulgp's guide: github.com/paulgp/beamer-… and Jesse Shapiro brown.edu/Research/Shapi…)
Treat your internal presentations like job talks - they are in a sense since you have to convince your home department first

Take all the comments to heart, fix as many of them as you can

But definitely collect them to know what's coming

Great job this morning by @NateWessler, arguing in the Supreme Court to make sure we don’t have to sacrifice our privacy to use new technology.

A few thoughts on the argument:
Chief Justice Roberts may have set himself up to extend his Riley decision to cellular location data. Justice Alito argued many times that Carpenter is indistinguishable from Smith and Miller. 1/
Alito seemed unpersuaded that location data is any more sensitive than the call records from Smith. And he speculated that many people understand they volunteer their location data to the telecoms. Justice Kennedy said the same. 2/
