Some numbers from the status report on the Ms. L family reunification case.
The government says it is expected to reunite all of the people found eligible for reunification by today's deadline, which leaves hundreds of the 2,551 kids still in the custody of the federal gov.
711 kids in the custody of ORR will not be reunited by the deadline because the adult isn't eligible or available. This includes 431 adults "outside the US" or who were deported w/out their kids.
Another 120 children won't be reunited with their parents by today's deadline because their parents waived reunification according to the feds. But as I reported many parents told lawyers they were coerced, misinformed or lied to into waiving their rights

Statement from @JoaquinCastrotx on the death of Felipe Alonzo-Gomez, the 8 yr old who died last night in CBP custody.

“Many questions remain unanswered, including how many children have died in CBP custody.”
An official with knowledge of Felipe’s death told me the 8 yr old had been detained by CBP for a whole week before he died. He and his father were detained since Dec. 18 after crossing into the US in El Paso, Texas.

Nielsen said unaccompanied children will be exempt from US plan to force asylum seekers along the southern border to remain in Mexico while their immigration case are processed.
"The goal is to protect those who seek asylum, it cannot be the way we do that is we force them to pay a smuggler trafficker and put themselves at risk," @SecNielsen.

Last night the latest status report in the Ms. L family separations case was filed. Govt released another 14 kids, but they weren't in the class of separated parents/kids — the feds have also been reporting what's happening w/ other migrant kids in custody assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5626…
To be clear, the 14 kids who were released may have been separated from a parent (one definitely was, it's not totally clear to me from this language if others were), but even if they were, the parent wasn't eligible to be part of the class
Regardless, there are still eight kids in US custody who were separated from a parent at the border, and either the parent isn't eligible for reunification yet (one is incarcerated, for instance) or the feds/ACLU are working on it

Here's the latest status report in the Ms. L case (family separation class action): As of 9/10, the govt had reunited 8 more kids with parents and discharged 24 kids (to sponsors, for instance) assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4878…
This week's report (left pic) organizes the numbers differently from last week's (right pic). The govt has characterized a large number of parents, in the US and outside of the US, as no longer part of the covered class, b/c the ACLU has confirmed they don't wish to be reunified
So basically, per this latest chart from the govt, there are 211 kids in ORR care who the govt is working to reunify with a parent or discharge to a sponsor, or
who the govt and the ACLU are still trying to figure out if they're eligible for reunification

New: The latest status report in the Ms. L family separation class action is in. As of 8/20, there were 528 children in federal care where the adult associated with them is either ineligible for reunification or is unavailable assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4782…
This number is down from the 565 children who were identified as being in ORR care as of 8/16. There was a drop in the number of children with parents who indicated they didn't want to be reunified, and kids with parents outside the US
And here are the latest numbers from the ACLU on efforts by a steering committee to reach parents who are outside the US, which make up the largest proportion of adults associated with children still in the US
