Kudos to @Uptake for writing what has got to be one of the best + most inclusive data scientist job descriptions I've seen out there: boards.greenhouse.io/uptake/jobs/15… Many things make it good... 1/n
First, the job description *highlights* learning as a major component of the job! What, I don't have to know everything before I apply? ❌🦄 2/n
Second - and I've NEVER seen this before - it includes various examples of how candidates can show they have the skills for the job. The idea being, there ARE many different ways! 3/n
Third, the description makes a distinction between "What We Are Looking For" and "Nice to Have," with important characteristics in the former, while length of time working and fancy skills are in the latter 4/n
And let's tally the things in the job description that make this something I'd apply for:
✅ Focus on "purpose-built products" & "values-driven organization"
✅ Emphasis on diversity and collaboration
✅ Parental leave, 401k matching stated upfront
✅ Candidate accommodations 5/n
Also included in the job description is a link to how the company conceptualizes data science, and so much of it is SO GOOD: uptake.com/blog/good-data… 6/n
Basically, this job description shows me that the team at @Uptake knows what they're doing. They know how data science functions in their company, and they're actively working to cultivate a culture that's inclusive. 7/n
FYI this is me just being floored by a job description. I wasn't paid to advertise, nor am I in the position to apply for the job (yet...) 8/n
I don't know if this is the work of @data_stephanie but I have a strong hunch she's part of it. In any case, this is an awesome model for how we *should* be advertising data science roles! 9/end
