Kudos to these young Iowa conservatives who refused to participate in the racist media circus whipped up by their “leaders” Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens.
I'm sure there are many things on which I would disagree with these Iowa TPUSA college students. But this act of standing up to powerful media figures like Kirk and Owens took guts, and it was the right thing to do.
If we want to have a healthier political culture in the future, we need to practice agreeing with one another on certain issues, in spite of our other differences of opinion. Today these students took a stand against racial demagoguery. The country is better for it.
Now tomorrow, we'll fight it out on environmental regulations, tax policy, foreign policy, affirmative action, etc, etc etc.... But for today, these young conservatives took a stand against their elders' vulgar race baiting tactics, and that is an unequivocal good.
The next shoe to drop is how the national TPUSA organization (basically an offshoot of the MAGA movement) responds to this act of public resistance. Journalists, please follow up with these Iowa students.
A healthy political movement would cherish grass roots assertiveness. A less healthy movement would punish the heresy of young people refusing to go along with the movement's central talking point. Check back in with TPUSA Iowa in a few months.
