Unpopular opinion: Snark is the lowest form of comedy. (Lower even than puns.) It’s also the easiest, & the most cowardly. Why? It requires zero vulnerability, zero courage, & it allows otherwise-smart people to snipe from behind a wall of cleverness that they misperceive as wit.
Based on a very astute comment from @baddestmamajama, who shed some light in a way I’d never considered, I’d like to assert my newly-revised notion: Snark from on-high is the lowest form. This includes snark directed at equals. And snark that comes from jealousy or competition.
I will also assert that this is true of most Twitter snark as well. (Oh, here is the second part of her comment, which, lamely, I couldn’t figure out to post in my last reply.)
