Thought it’d be a great idea to do a bikeride around Manhattan. Rented a bike from a shop on 49th st between 1st and 2nd ave and started off heading downtown.
It is nice to see that there are dedicated bike lanes but people just ride everywhere. I was surprised to see that there were so many people with e-bikes. These were people doing deliveries around town.
Crossed over to Brooklyn on Manhattan bridge.
Back to Manhattan on Brooklyn bridge. The promenade was pretty crowded for a Thursday morning. I guess a lot of people are vacationing before schools start.
Some interesting information about the bridges and views of lady liberty and financial district from Brooklyn bridge.
Next stop was the transit center next to Freedom tower.
The freedom tower and 9/11 memorial.
Federal hall: the site of George Washington’s inauguration in 1789. The site also displays the Bible Washington used at the ceremony which was later used for swearing-in of many other presidents including George H. W. Bush.
New York stock exchange. There was a lot of construction going on in this area. Missed the statue of the bull and the little girl.
Next up was battery park and then got onto NYC greenway. It is a nice multi use trail along Hudson River.
Rode NYC greenway all the up to George Washington bridge.
Cairns made by some artist on the shore of the Hudson.
There is this little red lighthouse under the bridge.
Under the belly of the beast. There is a walkway/bikeway on GW bridge but, it is so hard to get to it. Had to carry my bike over several stairs and go across really busy roads to get there.
Have crossed GWB in a car countless number of times. Always dreamt to ride on it and was happy to finally do it today.
On the way back to midtown rode through Central Park.
By this time, I was more than 30 miles into the ride with temperatures into 90s. Didn’t take any more pictures. Thanks to corporate membership through my employee, stopped at American Museum of Natural History for an hour to cool down in the A/C.
Ended the day with a 2 martini dinner with the wife at Grand Central Terminal before heading back to CT.

It was one of the hottest days this Summer. Glad I survived the ride even after sweating gallons. Forgot to bring along my biking shorts on this ride. The saddle on rental bike wasn't optimal plus sweat drenched cotton shorts made it horrible. Lesson learned for next time.
