... if I couldn't use the technique to run / manage / anticipate / plan / navigate and communicate the technique itself then I would bin it immediately. What would be the point of a mapping technique in business that can't usefully map itself?
If you want a laugh, trying doing a SWOT analysis of SWOT itself. That alone should give you all the reasons why the technique is pretty useless.
