This September, it was 17 years since I started writing about politics on the web. I've done this for longer than I've done anything else in my life, except (barely) attending school. It's a very strange feeling, and a sad one, given where politics has gone in that time.
One more observation: one of the reasons that I moved to DC was that it was so socially difficult to be right-identified (even barely) inNYC. In Washington, folks had bipartisan friends. That's still more true than it is in NYC, but it's a lot less true than it was 10 years ago.
I know everyone romanticizes their youth. But I really do think that I came up in a happier--if not happy--time for our country.
