I’m a normal-dude-turned-democracy-warrior, just like most of you. I don’t want to be obsessing about the destruction of democracy. But I’m compelled to. I can’t trust that other people will handle this & just put my head in the sand. I know too many people who are doing that. /2
I started writing on politics, democracy & resistance in January of 2017. And I won’t stop. I’m in this for the long haul, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get tired. It’s ok (even necessary) to admit that.
Remember in early 2017 when it seemed like America was about to explode with resistance energy? Those days are gone. If you are one of those who are still doing something every day to resist, you should feel proud. You get it. You see what’s happening.
Just be sure that you steel yourself for the long road ahead. The election won’t fix this - though flipping Congress is a critical step in the process. Even impeachment won’t solve our problems, because Trump is only the most obvious symptom of a broader disease.
Money’s corrupting influence on our politics, voter suppression and election security, foreign and domestic disinformation campaigns, the white supremacy movement, climate change denial...these are issues independent of Trump. This fight will take years. But we can win.
Be sure to take time and decompress. Don’t let them tire you out. That’s their plan.
