TL;DR: Foreign govts still aim to disrupt US elections & carry out covert influence ops to sway US public opinion thru social media platforms, state-owned media, & "sympathetic spokespersons." So far, fed/state/local info-sharing is protecting voting infrastructure from attacks.
Also: There are limits to what the feds can do to protect against foreign active measures campaigns. State/local govts (who own/operate voter databases & voting machines) & campaigns need sound cyber practices; and voters need to think critically about what they hear/see/read.
Today's indictment underscores the seriousness of the threat, showing the detailed playbook Russia used from 2014 thru present: millions of dollars spent, tightly coordinated messaging; and a disciplined comms strategy across social media, bloggers, etc. bit.ly/2P5YfTF
