This brief thread below deserves to be expounded on a bit more so that people can understand what President @MBuhari's administration is doing differently regarding #SocialWelfare... #Thread
@MBuhari 1- Under Gen. Yakubu Gowon, •the National Accelerated Food Production Programme (NAFPP) and the Nigerian Agricultural and Co-operative Bank (NACB) were set up. The NACB was established to fund agriculture... #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari The NAFPP & NACB failed as a result of corruption - available funds were diverted and used for other purposes other than in the agricultural sector as intended. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 2- In 1976 Gen. Olusegun Obasanjo introduced Operation Feed the Nation (OFN), where university undergraduates were ‘trained’ to teach real farmers how to farm. It failed because of its ill preparedness and ignorance on the part of farmers. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 3- In 1979, under Alhaji Shehu Shagari's regime, the Green Revolution Programme, aimed at mechanized farming to limit food importation and increase crop and fibre production, was introduced... #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari ... the GRP also failed as a result of corruption, as landed property were acquired for other intentions like using them for loan collateral. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 4- President @MBuhari, as a Military Head of State, introduced “Go Back to Land” Programme. It was short-lived as he was ousted from power in a military coup d'etat. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 5- Gen. Ibrahim Babangida introduced Directorate of Food, Roads and Rural Infrastructure (DFFRI) in 1986. It was aimed at providing feeder roads, electricity, and potable water and toilet facilities for the rural dwellers... #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari ... IBB also introduced People’s Bank of Nigeria and Community Bank. His wife, the late Maryam Babangida initiated Better Life Programme (BLP) for rural women. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 6- The late Gen. Abacha’s regime brought about Family Support Programme, and the Family Economic Advancement Programme in 1993. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 7- Obasanjo’s civilian administration introduced Poverty Eradication Programme (PEP), National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP), and National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS)... #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari ... OBJ's programmes were targeted at providing the people with employment opportunities and access to credit facilities to enable them establish their own businesses. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari 8- The late Yar'adua's regime introduced the Seven Points Agenda.

9- While @GEJonathan introduced The Vision 20:2020, the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) and YouWIN. #SocialWelfare
@MBuhari @GEJonathan All these programmes failed because, though they were meant to impact the lives of the poor, those put in charge never allowed them to get down to the targeted population... #SocialWelfare
And this is what stands President @Mbuhari's National Social Investment Programmes (@NSIP_NG) out from all the other #SocialWelfare programmes that preceded it.
