And who can blame them?
That's how we were taught in school.
We were given tons of material to learn, memorize & spit out in a test.
We have been conditioned to learning like our head.
Result?
Learning feels like work.
Which leads to people procrastinating, cramming & just half assing the process.
Now many will be able to pass the exams with the 50/50 effort, sure.
But is any of it retained?
Nah.
'And what is that bucko?'
Desire.
'And how do I get that buster?'
Emotion.
'Really?'
Ya. You cannot only learn with your brain.
You need your heart as well.
'How?'
Good question. 👇
I traditionally do 2 things:
1. Future projection.
2. Game.
These are my strategies, but you can experiment with your own.
Heck, you may already be doing these without even knowing it!
I envision my future self being a pro in whatever I am trying to learn.
Currently I'm a masters student for business intelligence & systems engineering.
So I have to deal with certain topics I love & some that are a lil dry.
'Example?'
Learning Powershell.
Scripting is cool & all, but not fun for me.
So how do I make it fun?
I picture myself as a future CEO who knows scripting inside & out.
This info helps me automate like a star.
And so on...
Point is, you need to be creative.
Keep searching for new angles that you can apply to your subject & then make it relate to you.
This sparks desire within you.
Power.
I try to turn things into a game.
When I was learning public speaking, I had massive speech anxiety.
Getting on stage was very difficult for me.
So what did I do?
I turned it into a game.
This requires creativity to brainstorm different game tactics.
Each speech would help me reach a new level
Comprting in speech competitions were like fighting a boss in a video game
Recruiting members for Toastmasters & helping them overcome their fear were cheatcodes etc.
Rather you are simply doing something because it is fun.
And who doesn't want to have fun?
*crickets*
Exactly.
This is how you level up like an OG.
By bringing out your inner child.
That's they hidden key 🗝
You are going to be learning.
You are going to be applying.
You are going to be retaining.
Congratulations, welcome to the top 3%.
You'll be stunned why you weren't learning like this in school.

Go discover your inner genius!
