Re: those retweets on exhausted parents: how dare anyone demand that parents of newborns perform constant joy for them. I think back to a study I saw nearly a decade ago, about how parents of young children are, by every objective measure we can measure, miserable.
The funny thing was they said they were happy, maybe they believed they were happy, but by everything the scientists knew how to measure, they were less happy than people w/out kids. (This is parents of young children--I suspect the reverse may be true for those with adult kids.)
People are exhausted, doing the best they can in a society set up to isolate parents, and you're going to demand that they pretend to be ecstatic 24/7 for your judgy ass?
Like, I dunno, as a woman without children I despise the entire Cult Of Parenthood, and mostly that's because of the assumption that it's the most fulfilling thing you can do with your life. But I'm also grossed out by the way it treats parents.
