Nagle advising Tucker Carlson on how to more effectively target migrants via their employers. She advised UKIP member Sargon of Akkad on how to use similar concern trolling arguments rather than hate to undermine the moral high ground of open border activists at TCD debate
This is the full segment - a yellow-pink alliance including dogwhistles about unnamed ‘Open Borders’ billionaires
“There has to be some way addressing obvious economic exploitation & injustice & kind of undermining moral high ground that open borders people have without actually attacking migrants themselves, it just seems to me right is not ever able to do that"
BTW to explain the pink-yellow reference above - back in 30s there were both local and international alliances between fascists and Leninists culminating in the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact that facilitated the invasion and division of Poland.
This was sometimes called a Red-Brown alliance after the colours of each side and indeed US fascist Richard Spencer has even tweeted a link to this appearance using the alternative term of NazBol. Others have called Nagle a Strasserite which is the Nazi side of that pact
I get where those reactions are coming from but think they are incorrect, the alliance her and Sargon are trying to build is more an alliance of the hard right and the nostalgic left around a shared hostility to anti-oppression politics.
The actual migrants are just tools to be used in this process, collateral damage in their attack on the Open Borders left. The real & quite futile goal is to roll things back to an imagined moment before 1968 when everyone knew their place in the social hierarchy
TBH their approach looks very like the right wing German nationalism horrified by the relative freedoms of the Weimar republic who also used racial & gender panics as a weapon against the left under the foolish illusion that they could late corral the far right footsoldiers
We are seeing this approach to the far right from conservatives (including those on the left) all over the world. Likewise the weird worship of Assad and Putin by those elements on the left and right. It's a suicidal politics of nostalgia and despair.
Oh and on that term Nostalgic Left, I coined and explained it back in 2013 but the tendency has become very much clearer in the years since. More on that here anarchism.pageabode.com/andrewnflood/n…
Liam Hogan ( @Limerick1914 ) has written a great piece explaining what the issues are with her examples from the USA as the way she references them make it less likely they'd ring alarm bells for people in Ireland knowing little of that history medium.com/@Limerick1914/…
Finally the appearance of this piece finally forced me back to finish off 'Identity Politics is a Four way Conflict' wsm.ie/c/identity-pol…
