New: James Wolfe, the former veteran Senate Intel staffer who pleaded guilty to lying about his contacts with reporters, is seeking no prison time, per his sentencing memo: assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5513… Previously: buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…
As part of his sentencing submission, Wolfe included a letter signed by Senate Intel Chair Burr, Vice Chair Warner, and former chair Feinstein asking for leniency - "we ask that the totality of his service and career be taken into consideration" assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5513…
There's also a handwritten letter from former director of national intelligence James Clapper: "I would hope the court would consider his long and faithful service, as well as what he has endured so far" assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5513…
NEW: Prosecutors are seeking two years in prison for former Senate Intel staffer James Wolfe, arguing a high sentence is warranted because his conduct "disrupted an important governmental function and endangered national security" (guidelines is 0-6 mos.) assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5513…
There is a lot of daylight between no prison time and two years. The judge will have to decide if what Wolfe did justifies an upward departure from the guidelines. Prosecutors are arguing that if anyone should have known better, it was Senate Intel's director of security
Wolfe wasn't charged with leaking classified information, and Wolfe has maintained since the beginning that he did not do so. The govt says in today's filing that the FBI did not find any evidence that he leaked classified nat sec information
