Léon Krier's 1978 proposal for an integrated walkable urban quarter at Luxembourg's Kirchberg Plateau. Of course it did not happen and instead we got the typical modern campus "tower in the Park" Corbu inspired nonsense. No wonder the bureaucrats at the EU organs hates Europe.
I looked at the present project on Google Streetview, I could not see a single pedestrian. You may draw conclusions about what technocrats really believe in when it comes to things like sustainability and ecology. Perhaps there will be electric buses for the plebs.
While Europe has put a gun to its own head and ordered us to keep digging, other countries show a bit more realism. Here's Krier with his client Hector Leal at the Paseo Cayalá in Guatemala, a town that didn't even exist 15 years ago. Still a bit too fresh, it'll mellow with age.

Clever. Students of an architecture school in Kyoto have made a scale model of a timber frame home to promote traditional Japanese earthquake resistant carpentry. They take it around local schools and let kids try assembling it by themselves in workshops.
They even provide a second model of a modern style timber frame construction, complete with metal plates and anchors. And of course, they stress test it: a simulated earthquake is easily done with a few eager volunteers doing their best to pull it down.
So if you have a small timber frame construction business anywhere in the world and want to do some long term marketing: build a model and take it around local schools. Or better yet, form a guild, pool resources to make a few models, and have a traveling exhibit.

In the late 19th c., after a visit to Paris, three local Haitian architects figured out how to build sustainable, earthquake and hurricane resistant wood and masonry houses. Known today by the clunky name "Le style gingerbread". Here a house in Port-au-Prince, 2017.
The style itself is absolutely inconsequential to the disaster resistant construction, but local patrons fell for the charming looks, reminding them of North American stick frame houses and French seaside resorts. Even when completely stripped nude, they remain charming.
The basic construction is exceedingly simple: a basic timber frame reinforced with diagonal braces, and walls infilled with absolutely anything: stone, mud, brick, wood, whatever was at hand when the house was built, it was all going to be covered in plaster anyway.

Every people who have used wood for their buildings have some sort of natural paint to help preserve it against water and insects. In Scandinavia it was the copper based red, in Europe the lime based white, and in Japan the pine soot black, still widely seen in Japanese cities.
The black preservative is called shibusumi, and is made by different alcohols, persimmon fruit juice and pine soot (also used in making ink). Applied straight on untreated wood. It acts as an insecticide, protects against humidity and kills fungi and bacteria. Often homemade.
Shibusumi can rub of a little so it is usually not used in interiors, but more and more people are applying it in an effort to create a less toxic atmosphere indoors. Completely hygienic and organic, it poses no threat to animals or humans, unlike modern paints and materials.

“The Russia investigation wasn't launched because of Carter Page.” That has nothing to do with the warrant. I’m not even sure why they included it, other than to confuse their readers. Who cares how the investigation started? What’s the probable cause for the warrant?
“The so-called dossier formed only a smart part of the evidence used to meet the legal burden of establishing "probable cause" that Page was an agent of Russia.” Of course they go on to NOT list any of the rest of the evidence. Because they can’t.

I’m starting a thread to document things I find in the FISA warrants that were just released. These will be in the form of observations I make as I work my way through it. First of all, the 412 pages includes all four warrants and the associated documentation.
Secondly, the first thing that stands out to me is that the FBI perjured themselves in the application for the warrant. Why do I say this? Because it includes this.

#1: Norwegians eat their sandwiches like this, with no bread on top
They have special paper to stop toppings falling off when carried around
#2: Norway is a relatively young country, only achieving true independence in 1905. This is why Norwegians tend to be deeply patriotic.
