Yesterday, we published online the last story in our collaboration with @propublica to investigate the growth of the natural gas industry in West Virginia

It’s been a tough year in many ways for our little local newspaper. We started off in bankruptcy court, with all of the reporters and editors facing layoff notices. A coal industry lawyer was celebrating.

Today, to complete a year-long partnership with @propublica, @wvgazettemail published a detailed look at what the natural gas boom in West Virginia looks, sounds and feels like for the residents who live with it every day.

Our story revealed the arcane system of property and mineral law that -- as currently enforced -- often allows gas companies to do whatever they want, wherever they want, as long as they have a lease to drill for natural gas beneath the land.

Here is a note to Chevron chairman and CEO, with a bit of a personal touch from Scott Pruitt. "Wonderful to spend time together!" It is interesting that most of these are from early 2017. Perhaps Pruitt decided to stop writing these snail-mail posted letters too.

1-The evening of the 22nd of June, Miss #SarahSanders (#WH press secretary) went for dinner with her family to this little place called ‘The Red Hen’. It seems that she was unceremoniously kicked out &harassed some more all the way across the street to the next restaurant
2-It seems somehow this incident has created some sort of mob-mentality wanting to harass Miss Sanders that has gotten to a point in which she now needs protection.

Let's get some facts straight about MS-13 because it's looking more and more like Republicans will use this as their central campaign issue in the 2018 election. And they're going to use despicable attack ads to do it. So, batten down the hatches!

First of all, detection of MS-13 gang members amounted to 0.075% of migrants coming from Central America in FY2017.

Even if these deals go forward, remember, Trump got hundreds of millions in “loans” from Bank of China and is now allowing it to get a foothold in Alaskan energy infrastructure via a liquefied natural gas project. Who in Congress is flagging this as a National Security concern?
2. Then there’s another “deal” in West Virginia for Chinese state-owned “China Energy Investment Corp” (a laughably disguised cover for Beijing to control mining/energy production in other countries) to take over shale production–$83 billion Chinese “investment” dwarfs WV’s GDP
3. American companies went from outsourcing manufacturing to China, to being owned by China, to now, bit by bit, crucial pieces of U.S. energy infrastructure development and ownership being outsourced to and owned by Beijing, and Congress is looking the other way.
