Notice the answer. [Remember this is 13 months ago] Since this presser, the objectives have been accomplished. President Trump is now handing off the remnant operations to regional allies Saudi Arabia and UAE (which U.S. will continue supporting).
The current argument/concern is who remains in charge of the Syrian de-ISIS coalition operation. President Trump says regional allies, those closest to the fight, should be vested now; step up and *we* support *them*. Trump's opponents say: no, the U.S. must.
McGurk was also the secret Obama negotiator for the 2016 Iran hostage swap and ransom payment.
With the de-ISIS operation in maintenance mode, McGurk was scheduled to exit his position in February. However, CBS frames the departure *as if* it is something dramatic and reactionary. Ridiculous. Purely political, and purely intentional, media framing by Margaret Brennan.
