Here is the thing about Bernie's "activism" in college, his being arrested at a protest etc...

I had so many residents like this when I worked in housing. During the events following the death of Trayvon Martin they went to a march in Dallas and came back and explained it to me like I would explain going to an amazing concert.
IT wasn't about Trayvon or police violence etc for them, for them it was an EXPERIENCE, something they could tell people at dinner party 50 years from now they did for cred.
One of them literally said to me and I quote," It was super cool but like nothing happened, I kind of wanted to throw a trash can through a window or something"
Because again, to these white male kids they knew the worse that would happen to them for violence like that is being arrested and paying a fine and a cool story to tell for the rest of their life or to bring up as proof of their not racism when they do/say something racist.
but to all the people of colour in that march had they decided to duck stuff up for shits and giggles, that could have started a life or death situation. And they didn't even care enough for that through to cross their mind for the briefest of seconds.
Because to them the cause is just an excuse for an experience to add to the color of their life.
So when I hear about Bernie protesting 50 years ago, about insisting if they arrest a black woman they arrest him too!!! about him paying his 25 dollar fine and spending the net 50 years doing jack shit for POC that is what I think of.....
I don't think young bernie protested because he believed in the cause, I think he protested because it would be an interesting experience he could talk about to make himself seem cool and hip and subversive to others.
