If I could have every Twitter follower read one book, it would be Charles Cobb's This Nonviolent Stuff'll Get You Killed. There is so much mythology about nonviolence that feeds into white liberal ideas about change.

Cobb gets into how guns were central to the whole civil rights movement, as armed self-defense was necessary for survival. Ideas of non-violence were in fact backed with the potential for lethal force. This truth challenges easy notions of what activism should look like.
The nonviolent-industrial complex has taken over so much of the air on proper paths of activism. And while I certainly have no problem with nonviolent activism, there are many paths and that must remain so.
Seriously, you should all read Cobb. It's also short and works great in the classroom.

As late as the mid-1970s, liberals believed another era of left-leaning government was around the corner. When Ted Kennedy fought to kill Richard Nixon’s milquetoast national health care plan, it was under the assumption that something much better would come soon.
While the recession and oil shocks that began in 1973 put a damper on this, liberals did not believe the fundamental equation of American politics had changed. They had a lot more they wanted to do. One goal was to move toward full employment.

1/ there is this sense when you are young that your accomplishments need to be a list of things that seem impressive to others. A list of several items you did.

This isn't actually right, so here is another suggestion.
2/ I remember being 26 and writing about reading 52 books a year. I wrote blog posts about it. They got copied. It became "a thing." Now it's in Twitter bios. It looks impressive but it's insanely useless and I shouldn't have done it.
3/ what I should have known at that time is that only young idiots like myself, with no accomplishments, find list of tiny achievements impressive. Anyone who has actually done anything of substance doesn't gaf

3 parts: my initial reaction, my hesitations, and Pope Benedict’s critique of the Dreher vision.
I read the book just over 3 years ago. I was in the Yukon at the time helping in their much underserved diocese. I did a LOT of driving and needed books to keep me company on the drive and so got the audio book of the Benedict Option to listen to.
I listened to it in pretty short order and found myself initially rather enchanted by the book. This is not unusual for me re: books I eventually disagree with, it’s part of how I come to see the claims of a book as agreeable or not, especially when it has nuggets of truth.

Kahina's spending her whole life just trying to provoke me into a boring irrelevant spat, which is good, cos while she's psychotically raving at me she has less time to do so in anything resembling an actual Communist Party.
Refusing to jump on her China-bashing bandwagon has her extremely riled-up, one can only speculate as to motives, ofc her declared motives are as always: enemies are just not pure communists, Kahina is The Only True Communist on Earth with 'noble commitments'.
"Committed to slandering China & Phil Greaves", is apparently a virtuous commitment to all of "humanity" these days. I mean come on Kahina, if you really have such a problem then grow-up & write something, ill answer i promise, But im not wasting my time on your twitter DARPing.

I think I can explain the confusion behind men saying that there’s no woman left that they can trust to marry. I’ll number my statements as I go on, just for clarity.

1) you were introduced into the world of sex by the older housemaid just before you hit puberty.
2) For the boys who missed the preying housemaid, you were introduced into the world of sex as a teenager by your friends just after you hit puberty.

3) Then, some porn and some masturbation thrown into the mix. Rocky journey though teenage life is underway.
4) By the time you get through teenage life into adulthood, you were already fully sexualised.

5) Your evaluation of females is now mostly based on the dimensions of their protruding body parts drawn from the stereotypes of your environment.

I’m often asked how I read so much and how I choose books. So, my I’ll try my first tweet storm...
1/ I love @naval ‘s idea to ask yourself: what that you do looks like hard work from the outside, but doesn’t feel like work to you?
2/ For me, one answer is reading. In most down time, I read. Probably 3 hours a day, in 2-3 chunks. Sometimes much more.
