I spent a LOT of time and killed a LOT of people to help a profoundly malfunctioning robot park a colonial era warship on top of a skyscraper this afternoon, and if you think I regret any of that, you don't know me very well. #Fallout4
The USS Constitution is part of our human cultural legacy and a rare treasure of bygone days, and if you think I'm gonna let a bunch of filthy shitheads scrap it for three months of iguana kebabs and needledrugs, you are w r o n g .
Also, dropped Hancock off at Spike's Home For Discarded Lovers and went and got this little turd. His perk is just too good, I want it as soon as possible.

(The timing was good, cuz he got to watch me steal everything of value aboard the Constitution before I sent it skyward.)

Louisiana makes no sense. Despite being a busy commercial and industrial hub packed to the brim with extensively-exploited natural resources, it's one of the poorest states in America, with the lowest quality of life indicators.

Here's a vid on why.
In a phrase? Industrial tax exemptions. Between 66% & 99%(!) of the properties owned by companies like Exxon & Dow in LA aren't taxed at all. Exemption requests, decided at the state level, are passed 99% of the time. There hasn't been a policy review of the process in +80 YEARS.
Louisiana is losing hundreds of millions, possibly more, in tax dollars every year to these exemptions. And as a result, when judged by factors like healthcare, infrastructure, educational opportunities and crime prevalence, LA comes DEAD LAST at 50. usnews.com/news/best-stat…

Oh god they're honestly all so interchangeable. But some common threads?

- No loss or death is their fault. It's a glitch, lag, or a stream sniper. Those are the only options.
- Everyone is their chat is an idiot and needs to shut up.
- Zero casual conversation. 100% sulking.
Some people have natural, easy charisma, and some people learn to be charismatic.

And some people just silently glower into their webcam for six hours when they're not playing with their phone or Yellin' At Vidya Gamez.
That Dad Mode streamer I liked from yesterday is on vacation, and I am feeling the loss.

More #Fallout4, and the construction of The Sanctuary Museum of Pre-War America.

Made a "children's toys" display case, and a "sports and leisure" display. Fishing rod won't fit in the latter, sadly.
As I mentioned before, the Vault-Tec rep is in Sanctuary and assigned to work the cafe, so the restaurant on the second floor is completely functional! Every evening after work, the residents congregate up here to eat and socialize. I need to finish the building & add furniture.
I also made the rep his own house; an old bus behind the museum. Unlike most of the settlement's living quarters, he has it all to himself, cuz again, Dude Needed A Win.

Which is of course one of the worst things about depression: everything that has a chance in hell of helping you is orders of magnitude more difficult to do in every meaningful way.

But reaching for someone else I think has to be one of the most difficult of those.

I’ve watched a profound narcissist suffer a complete psychological break.

Today’s Trump tweets remind me of that spiral.
Since a few asked, where that spiral goes (before I go run my last Xmas errands):

Increasingly irrational, utter rejection of facts and reality, spirals down into fully believing a fictitious personal narrative, says increasingly bonkers things, shuffles their inner circle.
It’s just a lot of unhinged, manic-feeling delusion and outbursts.

They can’t handle reality and construct an increasingly fictitious version in their heads: they aren’t failing; they’re winning - and people are just trying to hurt them.

It’s just sheer delusion - blurted out.

I get a lot of emails asking me about being an academic and an activist and if there’s one thing I want students to know it’s that no matter what, your job at the end of the day is still to become a technical expert in your field. That’s what the degree is being granted for.
I found that in order to get myself to do physics I had to do some activism as an outlet. But at the end of the day, I was still a student working towards degrees and at various points I hunkered down and focused.
Like yes I was very involved in the Living Wage sit-in In 2001. Because of that, during the following academic year I scaled back my activism a lot to catch up on my academics. Similarly when it came time to prepare for my qualifier in grad school, that’s all I did.

(1) The extreme accommodations being offered by Grassley & Mitch are the greatest #BlessYourHeart in history.

They know she will NEVER repeat her allegations under oath.

They know the votes next week WILL be 11-10 then 51-49.

They know Kav will NEVER be impeached.

(2) OK I used a little poetic license in Tweet #1. They can't know exactly what the votes will be; there's more than one way to #ConfirmKavanaugh next week. Any judge *could* theoretically be impeached on a new issue, but IMHO Kav is the least likely person ever to commit crime.
(3) I've had it with all the shrieking over this confirmation. No, ongoing Democrat slime ball tactics to undermine Kav once he's on the SCOTUS are not going to succeed. Haven't you learned this by now?
