Dropped my son off for his drum line’s bus trip to perform tonight.

Was grumbling to myself about having four hours of waiting around to do.

But then my son got out of the car as two of his friends walked up.

His face just lit up and then the three of them went walking off in their matching jackets and crisp uniforms.

I craned to watch them until they rounded the corner.

Happy kids joined by this things of theirs.

So happy he has this.

His joy is my joy. Happy kid, happy dad.

And now I’m in a pub tucking into a second Guinness sentimental as shit and thinking about this one from only a month and a half ago.

I am a f***ing malomar. Hard outer shell. Soft as a Lifetime movie on the inside.

Thank god it isn’t karaoke night.

1) Claiming these kids’ lives would be “ruined”.

Trayvon Martin’s life was ruined. George Zimmerman’s was not. Inconvenience isn’t ruin. Consequences aren’t ruin.
@arlenparsa 2) Suggesting that a community which fully created, fostered and maintained a culture of bigotry and intolerance just needs to do a little thinking is naive at best.

Predatory cultures don’t meet up for community coffee and soul-search about things they believe aren’t wrong.

Again, I say this respectfully, but that projected identification and forgiveness has done more to perpetuate systemic racism than angry protests AGAINST racism have ever done.

Historians will someday pinpoint when the young man confessed to having no fondness for dogs but an affinity for his pet lizard as the moment when his prospects entered into an irrecoverable nosedive.

The young woman has a variety of interests and is quite amicably bouncing from subject to subject.

Her companion seems about as lively and interesting as a bag of potatoes.

The lizard prints are on the wall. If she agrees to a 3rd drink, love is dead.

2/ A consortium of law enforcement agencies arrested 75 yesterday in The Woodlands (TX), my home, for prostitution and human trafficking. Five trafficking victims were recovered, one of whom was a juvenile.
3/ Democrats in several states have been sending out mailers with a "score" showing how often the person votes and reminding them that this info is publicly available in an effort to shame them into voting. Voters who've been interviewed about it don't like it.

I think about the First Order stormtrooper who yells "TRAITOR" a lot

Was he in Finn's unit? Did he blame that other stormtrooper's death on Finn? Did he know Finn shot up that hangar? Did the First Order deem lightsabers a big enough threat to develop and issue a countermeasure?
Think about this guy for a minute though

There's a battle raging. HVT's *everywhere.* Han friggin' Solo himself is there. They're looking for a single droid. And in the midst of this, he looks up and sees Finn and stops everything he's doing to settle the score
Oh shit, Finn has a lightsaber? No worries, because our man here's gonna beat him to death with a sweet spinning energy-nightstick thing instead of, ya know, shoot him.

This is the most me story ever.

I'm driving to work when I see a giant box turtle in the opposite lane.

Because the road has no margins, I pull into somebody's yard to go pick it up and put it back in the drainage ditch on the side of the road.
My commute is a 20 mile trail of fresh carnage every morning. It makes me physically ill sometimes. You can save turtles, though.

I pull into the yard, and before I can even turn the motor off, I feel my wheels losing traction. Goddamnit. The yard is deceptively muddy.
I can't afford to be too late to work today either, so I can only hope that cars avoid it. Sure enough, every single car swerves or carefully straddles it beneath the chassis.

But I'm fuckin stuck, and the only person I know who can pull me out is 30 mi. away & probably asleep.

I don't have it in me to turn this into a full fic, so here. We're gonna do this on a thread. Imagine, if you will, piano man Scott Moir, dicked over by his record label, lost everything, finally taking a job in a dive playing for tips. Which he gets, because he's GOOD.
A week into this regular gig the bar manager comes back from vacation. Tessa Virtue, who's caused a few too many fights over her amongst both bar staff and patrons, through no fault of her own of course but it's enough to get her labeled as trouble in the classier establishments.
She's a seasoned professional, who can tell exactly how many is gonna be too many for any customer that walks in, and she never dates the talent. So when Scott asks who the green-eyed beauty behind the bar is, everyone tells him to forget it.

(He does not forget it.)
