One thing I love about @AOC is that she knows how to go where the people are, a surprisingly rare skill among politicians in liberal and centre-left parties.
The reality is that while twittering fools like Aaron Sorkin sniff at the "young people," these spaces where we gather *do* offer radical organising potential.

Even after everything that's happened since 2014, that remains true; perhaps more than ever.
It's vital to learn from history, but we need to remember that contemporary radical organising isn't going to look the way it did in the early 1900s, and that isn't a mark against it. These are the new spaces where power can be built.

I mean, with a take this nuclear, I'd say the subtext has become operatic supertext. Holy mother of God...
It feels like there needs to be a name for takes so hot they're *beyond* nuclear (unless, I suppose, we allow "nuclear" to include the fusion occurring in solar cores).
But in all seriousness, Boot has unintentionally given a powerful argument to those of us who argue that there's a continuity between American settler-colonialism and modern American imperialism. Christ, he even worked a reference to the Roman Empire in there.

Finally got around to this brilliant (and uproarious) @PhilosophyTube vid, which offers a beautiful argument against the British monarchy (and Britishness) centering on desire and symbolism:
I should also add, the running sexual metaphor throughout the video can seem jarring at first, but it turns out to be one of the best ways of explaining the significance of cathexis (essentially, powerful emotional attachment) I've yet seen.
The long and short of it is that @PhilosophyTube is right. Britain has nationalised the concept of the waifu-- and she is the Queen.

There was already Discourse about the Mermaids stream and while I don't want to discourage constructive critical conversation, I should emphasise that events like this have tremendous value.
Today, I saw numerous trans women in my circles who have been struggling with the drumbeat of bad news--people whose health I worry about daily, some of whom even thought they'd have to go into hiding--feel utterly buoyed by the sudden parade of good news brought by the stream.
Glinner was just one of several powerful people in Britain who coordinated an assault on a charity that helps trans kids. It was *deeply* dispiriting to see, day after day, cis men and women with lofty platforms launching these attacks on our kids and our right to even exist.

People who think I don’t like Kubernetes: you’re wrong. My team manages dozens of Kubernetes clusters, thousands of pods, and tens of thousands of containers at scale. You need to know where Kubernetes’ strengths and weaknesses are to make it effective.
As a scheduler of containers, Kubernetes does a pretty good job. If you keep it focused on that key task, it can take you miles. As a manager of a large scale distributed infrastructure, it’s not so good.
People I work with are tired of hearing this, but the mantra is: smaller clusters, more of them. Turns out you can manage Kubernetes pretty effectively if you keep it at relatively small scale. Manage the meta-footprint separately.

Maybe it will help to focus on a specific comparison. The San Francisco-San Jose complex -- the Bay Area -- is among the best-educated metros in America. Fresno, about 2 1/2 hours away, is among the least-educated 2/ brookings.edu/blog/the-avenu…
So what would it take to induce high-tech companies to relocate to Fresno? Even quite large subsidies probably wouldn't do it. After all, they're still concentrating in Silicon Valley despite huge increases in real housing costs relative to other areas 3/

One thing I love about archaeology are those moments when a ‘scene’ is discovered, ‘frozen in time’ by something. I’ve talked before about the exploded skulls at Herculaneum, & I feel much the same way about Minoan remains found at Anemospilia, on the island of Crete... THREAD /1
We’re not sure what deity the ‘temple’ found at Anemospilia was dedicated to, but it appears to have been in use around 1700 BCE. It consisted of 3 rooms in a row, with a corridor connecting them. Pots, votive objects, altars & other finds suggest its religious use. /2
A skeleton was found in the corridor area, positioned as if he’d been crushed by falling masonry. He was holding a vase, of the kind used when the Minoans sacrificed bulls. Archaeologists think he was trying to hurriedly leave the temple when he met his end. /3

One thing I love about history is how small & insignificant things at the time can end up telling us so much.

A good example is how 1,800 years ago a school bully scratched some graffiti into the wall of his school, & accidentally gave us the first visual depiction of Christ.
In 1857, while excavating ruins on the Palatine Hill in Rome, researchers stumbled across the ruin of a Paedagogium, an old school building for training imperial page boys.

The school had been walled up sometime in the 3rd century to support constructions above it.
Inside, they found the walls scrawled with graffiti, left by the generations of students who had passed through.

Among them, they found a graffito apparently mocking one of the students for being part of a strange new religion sweeping the Empire. He was a Christian.
