Finally got around to this brilliant (and uproarious) @PhilosophyTube vid, which offers a beautiful argument against the British monarchy (and Britishness) centering on desire and symbolism:
I should also add, the running sexual metaphor throughout the video can seem jarring at first, but it turns out to be one of the best ways of explaining the significance of cathexis (essentially, powerful emotional attachment) I've yet seen.
The long and short of it is that @PhilosophyTube is right. Britain has nationalised the concept of the waifu-- and she is the Queen.
