/ Shit, I think my acronym may be CODE
/ First step is capture, which I’m beginning to realize is a discrete stage. What to capture? In whole or in part? How to capture? Where to capture? Why capture? For what purpose?
/ Second step is Organize. Sort captured items into buckets loosely defined by actionability (when or in what context they’ll be needed). PARA is my method but could be as simple as Active and Archives folders
/ Third step is Distill. Unlike with brief, one sentence tasks, reference info is voluminous. Needs to have main points identified and surfaced for future retrieval. As arrows show, distillation also includes putting ideas into a linear order that makes sense
/ Fourth step is Express. Take the ideas, which are already pre-selected, distilled, and in the right order, and actually create the thing (blog post, song, poem, graphic, plan, etc) and share it with the world
/ A few interesting observations. They are the same stages as GTD, except missing Clarify (you can’t clarify the single “point” of a note upfront as with tasks), and Review (it makes no sense to review ambiguous knowledge on a schedule, because you can just call up on demand)
/ Also, these 4 steps happen to follow a convergence-divergence seesaw. Capture & Distill are convergent, Organize and Express are divergent. That reflects the creative process and also provides clear stopping points between stages
/ Also, is it just me or does that image somehow evoke religion/spirituality? I mean it has a human figure, a crown, and a halo. Also might map to knowledge entering through the head but expressing through the body
/ Also, first and last stages are most mysterious but also what ppl do most naturally. Middle stages are most difficult but that’s where I provide the most support (with PARA and progressive summarization). I provide a bridge over the uncanny valley
/ Anyone see any room for improvement?
