I think "grod" and related Slavic words "Ogorod", "Gorod" etc. derive from "oda" (water). A settlement around water, possibly with channeled canals.

In Sanskrit, "uda" उद means water and "akra" अक्र means a fence.
"Akra+uda" is similar to "Paridaeza" in Persian (fenced garden).
The word "garden" in English (and similar words "jardin" in French etc.) may all derive from the Slavic "grod".

I discussed the origins of gardening and water harvesting in this thread.
I suspect the word “Kurd” as in “Kurdistan” derives from the Indian tribe “Kuru” (also names of Persian emperors “Cyrus/Kurush”). It could be related to “Krishi” (agriculture) or “akra” (fence). So Kurds generally, not just Yezidis, may have Indian origin.
