I am on the second direct train, about to play the dangerous game of getting of at Grantham, hoping to catch the delayed train to arrive in Stockport earlier (!)
.. but hopefully not delayed enough to get me stuck in Doncaster instead!
#TrainJumping is much more fun way of travelling home from Cambridge than a nauseating pendolino service full of Londoners.
Also, LNER, now a state-owned franchise started by the Tory government (!)
This might have been overly optimistic..
Doncaster is nice station though, specially platform 3b.
Very disappointed I made it to my train on platform 3B in time..
I seem to have jumped ahead to a winning horse, even if it somehow got 5 minutes delayed. What do I win?
Looks like I even got home to the house before the expensive London options made it to Stockport

Every single time there's a horrifying story about a Border Patrol agent, I feel it: about midline, just below my xiphoid process, I feel a fullness; literal pain.

Always, half of me hopes it's him—the man who raped me. He grew up to be a Marine. A cop. A US Border Patrol agent.
If it's him, the first half thinks, maybe whomever else he's hurt will have justice. Maybe it'll finally end.

It'll never end.

Every time a story like this breaks, the other half of me hopes I was wrong. I'm not.

My story wasn't enough. I came forward too late.

Just me.

One.
When I came forward, I was treated with respect—and belief. Validation.

It still wasn't enough to heal me. And now there's a scar—about midline, just below my xiphoid process.

This Border Patrol agent is not my rapist. He's theirs. They're dead.

How many will it take?

My Dad was shot & killed in 1991. His life was stolen. It left me parentless at the age of 19. I've been volunteering w/ @MomsDemand since its inception 5 yrs ago. This work is grueling, but I (like so many others) are compelled...
...to do this work because I simply have no choice. Sitting on the sidelines is not an option. The person who murdered my Dad will be released from prison in 1 1/2 years -- and could buy a gun w/o a bg check in a private sale....
...bg checks are not required in Missouri (where I live) --- or federally because Rs thwarted the Manchin-Toomey bg check bill after Sandy Hook. When they closed the door on us, we took this battle to the states....

Facts and risk assessment. Many Americans feel they need to be armed and loaded at all times for self defense. As a doctor for 21 years in busy level 1 trauma centers, I have seen almost exclusively targeted shootings—domestic violence, drugs, accidental . Random is rare.
Personal risk is not based on reality. U.S. Bureau of Justice noted "between 2003 and 2007, 2.1 million household burglaries were reported to the FBI each year on average. Household burglaries ending in homicide made up 0.004% of all burglaries.”

That is 84 deaths total in a population of 325 million. Each death is a tragedy, but where are people getting the idea that this is a common, every day occurrence that requires time, energy, and money to be armed at all time? FACTS MATTER. #ENOUGH

On 2/26/18, @mayflower_gal & I approached our school administration with a proposal, calling for our school to participate in a walkout; asking students to stand up and help speak out against gun violence. We were not alone; 6 other students also made a plan to walkout.
Admin met with all of us. Our original plans, while in need of further work, accounted for the variety of perspectives and opinions existing in our community while still emphasizing the point of the national movement #Enough.
During a series of meetings with admin, however, the students who were the most passionate were pushed to the side while the representatives of student council took control and twisted the original intent of our plan.
