She was an enlisted SIGINT linguist (Farsi) who transitioned to AFOSI as an (enlisted) Special Agent, where she worked CI in the CENTCOM AOR. She left the AF in 2008 and worked as a contractor for AFOSI for 2 years before she, whoops, defected to Iran.
AFOSI's agent workforce is a mix of GS civilians and military (E & O). Like NCIS (which is basically all civilians), AFOSI handles #natsec investigations (CI & CT) as well as 'normal' criminal matters.
As usual, we've been dissecting the Witt case, based on DoJ paperwork, all day over at @thespybrief -- an ugly spy case, this one. She fired off plenty of warning flares prior to her summer 2013 defection to Iran, but....oh well.
