On this day in 2007, SGT Buddy "Doc" Hughie -- 1st Battalion, 180th Infantry, Okla. Army National Guard -- was KIA in Kamdesh attempting to provide medical assistance to an Afghan soldier. His family misses him dearly; have a thought for them if you could.
His son Cooper who was an infant when Buddy was KIA
More recent photo of his grave, upgraded with marble slab from FOB Hughie
Friend of mine reminds me the passenger terminal in Kabul is named in his honor.

"In the evening hours of December 24th, a child who had been apprehended with his father by the Border Patrol attempting to illegally enter the United States, died at an El Paso hospital after being taken for emergency treatment for the second time in less than 12 hours.

My key message: Heed safety warnings to protect yourself & loved ones.
(2) To save time I'm presenting photos without locations and names. Most of the initial batch are from the area first hit in NC: Wilmington, New Bern, James City and surrounds.

Urban SAR team uses poles to check for debris & holes as they walk through floodwater.
(3) Rescuers with part of the huge tree that fell on a home, killing 2 & critically injuring a 3rd occupant.

Tree broken off the stump, showing winds were strong enough that sodden soil wasn't always a factor. Being Cat 1 =/= low risk.

Literally a set of steps floating by.

1. On August 6th, 2011 a U.S. Chinook helicopter was shot down in the Wardak province of Afghanistan. There were no survivors. 31 American lives were lost that night; 25 U.S. Special Operations Personnel, 5 U.S. Army National Guard and Army Reserve crewmen, and 1 U.S.
2. Military Working Dog. Also, lost that night were 7 Afghan Commandos and 1 Afghan Interpreter. 32 children lost a father that day.

 Today,7 years later, we remember and honor each of the lives lost that day.
