During the elections, we were working, there is no back to work because the work never stopped. Ex workers of Savannah sugar who were thrown out of job by Obasanjo and Atiku without compensation will now be paid.
Let me give you a quick background of Savannah sugar..

Savannah sugar was established in 1973, sitting on 32,000 hectares of land which includes the sugarcane plantation, a dam for irrigation, estates and sugar production / refining complex. It was the second sugar company and the largest in West Africa..

Installed capacity of 100,000 metric tonnes of sugar and a staff strength of 7000 employees in Numan, Adamawa. Poor policies, bad management killed it before time.
Buhari came in 1983 and tried to revive it..see attached. Buhari has always been an advocate of local production

Babangida's chop I chop government came in and granted import licenses and waivers to his cronies to import sugar into the country. There was a glut in the market, Savannah sugar had trucks loads of sugar which they couldn't sell. Workers became angry with the company..

Payment of salaries became an issue. Both Nigerian sugar company and Savannah sugar died naturally.
The Minister of trade and investment, Minister for Agric and the CBN governor have been working hard to ensure that we become self sufficient in the production of sugar..

Similarly for rice, tomato and other produce we can grow locally. The era of rent economy is over. We must become productive and curb the unnecessary stress on the Naira. We can't be entirely import dependent and dream of a valuable currency.
