It's true that, by the 1980s, the USSR was not what it once was, and that the Reagan White House hyped its evil beyond all recognition. But make no mistake: millions of Russians died, many by starving to death or being worked to death. It was very bad in its own way.
Another thing: Some North American Communist (yes, they are real) are plainly stupid.
Or drunk on faith. It happens.
