I just want to say that I am appalled at how many staff at Brock University did not know how to respond to the situation at hand in order to keep their students safe. There NEEDS to be policies and training for scenarios such as this, and lockdown implementations. A thread
The library staff did not know what to do, and were in a panic before even thinkin to call security and locking the doors to start lockdown procedure.
Students should not have to advise staff on what to do. And everyone needs to try their best to stay calm and not cause a moral panic throughout the school
While I understand situations like this are high stress, you can’t just tell me there is no training on what to do if there is a supposed armed person on campus and safety implementations
Tell me how only parts of the school were on lockdown while other parts were not even informed and when informed, did not even have a clue on the first step
I feared for my friend who left my classroom on break, as she didn’t even know anything at the time. At the time I thought the situation was a lot more dire and life threatening, as not a lot of information was released and there was a large panic.
News should be released as “investigation of assault by a person with an unconfirmed weapon on campus, more updates shortly” instead of saying there was a shooting with 3 shot and location of perpetrator unknown..when it was a stabbing and drove a way.
This causes a giant uproar, a hue panic of a campus filled with thousands of people. I just think better practices and training should be in place in case of something like this or worse occurring at an educational institution. That’s my opinion at least
I’m obviously just shaken by the experience but this is important that staff do not freak out and know the proper regulations of undergoing a lockdown or a potential threat on campus
