From a local #RVA feminists who belives in personal responsibility, I share this: Peggy Toney AS an old feminist, age 81, I have to say I do not find the ME TOO movement congruent with my sense of responsibility. Don't wait till it's a political advantage to come forth. 1)

2/ There is a great difference between sexual overtures and casual displays of
affection. The excuse that one does not say what they think if they are
offended due to society not accepting of women's right to be forthright is
ridiculous. @CNNPolitics

3) As a young woman there were plenty of times when I had to say "stop that" it is not acceptable. That was long before the Women's movement. Most of the women I know and particularly those in my age group have no fear of saying what they believe. @washingtonpost @nytimes

4) We do not wait to dig up every slight when it is to our political advantage. -From Peggy Toney a long time feminist from #RVA . As a long time feminist myself and like most women having dealt with aggressive men as well, I think Ms. Toney has spoken well. @RTDNEWS

5) I will add my own comments to Ms. Toney's about personal responsibility. If you go to a man's room what do you think he is going to expect? If you participate in consensual sexual conduct that sends another message. But like Ms. Toney notes, you can speak out & LEAVE.

6) Unlike the horrific case in SC w doors were locked & victim trapped, you could have left the room. You later visited him in NY or another city, and asked favors of him. You continued the relationship and said nothing until his political star was rising. Not condoning him but

7) ..women have to take responsibility too and exercise judgement and stand up for THEMSELVES by getting the heck out! Tell him loudly NO! Then GO. Stand up for yourself and exercise responsibility and assert yourself, you are EMPOWERED! Don't just make a belated victim claim.
