Can't remember what flower this is, but it's pretty and blooming! It creeps and tumbles over the edge of my garden.
Edit: It's a calibrachoa which is supposed to be hardy to zone 9.

I'm zone 6a/b... I guess the mild winter and being close to the house?

A new testing method makes for a clearer picture of the microbiome on the ISS. Lots of things there, nothing super surprising. It matches fairly closely to a gym or hospital. Important for long term space travel! microbiomejournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
If you'd rather read something less technical, this is a decent breakdown of the paper without the "OMG DANGEROUS GERMS" I'm seeing on a lot of other articles. The most troubling finding here is the bacteria that can create biofilms and clog machinery.

It's warming up, which means bugs and critter photos! Rescued this handsome lady Phiddipus audax (Bold Jumping Spider) from the bathroom. She probably overwintered in my indoor plants, and is now happily munching bugs in the garden. Definitely at least a full year old.
When young, they have orange/rusty markings, that fade to white as they age. Females get bigger than males, up to the 3/4" that this one was. The Phiddipus genus is known for being larger, and having the lovely metallic chelicerae you can see, in her case, green.
They tend to like the broadleaf plants, I think she was living in my clivia this winter. In my yard they are especially fond of the butterfly weed/milkweed though I also find them in my beans and tomatoes.

They spin webs only as anchor lines and to protect their eggs.

1. Dylan’s clarification that many mainstream critics have been engaging with a strawman is much appreciated. The amount of uncritical echo chamber-esque repetition by journalists 1/n
of these strawman attacks has been disappointing, perhaps encapsulated most starkly when Fed Chair Powell was quoted as saying “MMT is just wrong” when in fact the “wrong” claim he was referring to was something no MMTer would ever claim.

2. Dylan is absolutely right about 2/n

3/ There’s been a lot of people thinking about this for decades so why now? Some of the points from @lessin were the world is increasingly connected, there’s more data available, major increase in student debt & the 2008 financial crisis led to more concern about taking on debt

"Instead of paying for each prisoner that walked on the ship in Great Britain, the government should only pay for each prisoner that walked off the ship in Australia.
And in fact, this was the suggestion which in 1793 was adopted and implemented. And immediately, the survival rate shot up to 99%."

#Fact 1 - The Wage Gap is real. People who says it's not haven't read the data.

However, in places like the USA, the wage gap is *not* mostly due to sexism like many #femnist #WomenInScience are claiming it is today. Disparate outcomes doesn't imply disparate treatment.
Women typically choose fields that are lower paying; even in the #STEM fields. To attribute that to sexism only or even mostly is a very dishonest way of deriving an answer for this complex disparity.

When the US Department of Labor Statistics took into consideration personal choices, non-wage benefits, hours worked, experience, education, and other variables that contributes to the wage gap the percentage of earnings decreases to approximately 3%.
