I’m not the first to say it, but I worry that pattern of the last week or so is a prologue to a lot more people getting hurt. Officials who tried to follow at least some of the laws are fired because they did, and the president celebrates the lawless maltreatment of immigrants...
A constellation of news reports seem to indicate there’s a cadre in the White House led by the President that is determined to push their border policy beyond legal boundaries, fire subordinate officials who get in their way, and encourage line level officials to defy the courts.
Congress doesn’t seem to be capable of summoning any kind of consensus to stop the pressure from above, so that may leave rank and file law enforcement in a crucible, potentially deciding between their superiors’ commands and court orders. It’s a bleak picture.

A lot of Assange take writers are blurring the lines between the indictment’s “means and manner” paragraphs and the core statutory allegations, which is a shame.
The statutory allegations in the indictment are all about computer intrusion. But the indictment’s “means and manner” characterization of the conspiracy (naturally) mentions that it was a part of the conspiracy Assange was trying to receive and publish information.
I can see why it’s tempting to choose this as one’s line in the sand over press freedom, but it’s not a prudent or necessary one.

Senators Pelosi, Schumer, Feinstein and Warner, together with House chairmen Nadler and Schiff, sign onto a new letter demanding the full Mueller Report.
This part is the closest Pelosi and Schumer have come to entertaining the possibility of impeachment or some other sort of accountability (censure?).
They also cite two prior investigations that led to impeachment inquiries as precedent for releasing grand jury info.

The Assange indictment seeks to allay press freedom concerns by focusing on an allegation that he tried to help Manning “crack” a DOD password—i.e. entering into a conspiracy to steal rather than simply receiving info. justice.gov/usao-edva/pres…
There’s no allegation that they successfully broke into SIPRnet, and the seriousness of Assange’s effort is unclear, so I think people can reasonably argue the charges are pretextual and chilling. It’s an argument that will have to look past the face of the indictment tho.
The evidence Assange tried to “crack” the password? He said he failed, at least initially.

Last week we released @radicle_xyz , a decentralized alternative to Github built on IPFS. ✨

The software is still very alpha, but below is some history and context for our project 👇
1. We started the project with the belief that code collaboration infrastructure is too critical to be controlled by a single corporation in a closed source way.
2. Progress on decentralized storage as well as resurgence of p2p protocols gave us confidence that the timing is right.

Today a lot more people are interested in re-decentralizing the web, concerned by the growth of internet monopolies.

Hey @EtienneSchneide, I'll email you soon, but I'm just going to talk here a bit about Articles 11 & 13. Apparently some people think I'm a bot or a tech company stooge because I oppose these articles. I am not. I'm a journalist, privacy advocate, and recent Lux immigrant.
(As a matter of fact I'm so *not a bot* that I encountered you briefly at Astroid Day, but it was busy and I doubt you'd remember me.) Anyway, I adore my adoptive country, and really don't want to see it make any of the same mistakes as my birth country, the USA.
In the US I wrote for many years about IP law and its effects on the internet and the lives of ordinary people. I'm not fan of the big tech companies either -- I've been vocally critical of them since the 90s, and don't even use their services for the most part (Twitter aside).

I've been going to cons as a vendor or attendee for 20+ years. Cons have changed a lot, but the biggest change is NOT what most people always point out... that media has taken over the Con. That's true, but the big change is in the people who go, and why they are there. 2/18
Con attendees are not the day-in, day-out comic buyer. Con attendees are by and large more casual fans of the actual books, even though the cosplay may trick you into thinking they are "super fans". They are "super-fans", but of the idea of comics far more than the titles. 3/18
