@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Good question. One I think about often without coming to a concrete answer. Typically "no contact" is often the only way to avoid their toxicity, but as anyone who shares custody of a child with a Cluster B disordered parent knows, that's not realistic. 1/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Consequently you keep getting sucked into their pathology because they have so much influence and access to something you cherish…..your children. 2/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Well, metaphorically speaking, our democracy is the child that we are desperately trying save from Trump’s disorders. And obviously, the no contact rule is inapplicable when the toxicity emanates from the most powerful person on the planet, who can’t simply be ignored. 3/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen The options appear(ed) to be: 1. Criminal….let the criminal investigative process run its course and expect that everyone and everything that had the name Trump attached to it would be brought down. 4/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Well, even if the Mueller report is/was as bad as expected, it appears that Barr and others will do everything possible to protect Trump. I still think there’s a good chance that the SDNY, the E.D. Va, and the state of NY have enough on him to bring him down.... 5/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen ...But at this point, it would be foolish to feel confident about anything because we’re at a point in history where apparently nothing matters and no one cares. 6/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen The other option is a political solution: impeachment. But as you point out, regardless of whether the GOP is actually compromised, or just extremely cowardly & self-preservational, it’s highly unlikely that the Senate would vote to convict even if the House did impeach. 7/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Even assuming the GOP is not personally or politically compromised by foreign hacking/money, as long as Trump has an 89% approval rating among Republicans, he won’t be convicted because few, if any, GOP senators will convict on moral grounds and give up their Senate seat. 8/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen As a result, there’s a coordinated effort by Trump, his loyalists in the DOJ, the congressional GOP, & the Right wing “media authoritarians” to lie, obfuscate, confuse, deceive, and propagandize in order to control the narrative.....9/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen …in a way that continues to perpetuate the persecution, the witch hunt, and the “fake news” narrative….10/ washingtonpost.com/politics/barrs…
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen ….so that regardless of the level of illegality/treason that may be revealed, it is either not believed by the base, or it is internalized as a personal affront to Trump’s supporters who have become dyfunctionally invested in him. 11/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Basically, the media authoritarians (who have built their brand on the infallibility of the GOP, and now Trump’s inculpability), disinform and emotionally rile up the constituent base,… 12/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen ….who then threaten to primary any “disloyal” Senator or House Representative who might experience a momentary lapse of cowardice, 13/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen ….who then sycophantically and dutifully defend a POTUS that they privately despise. 14/ washingtonpost.com/news/postevery…
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen The potential result is that Trump faces no accountability, the congressional GOP keep their jobs, and any Senator's or House member's compromising information is not made public,... 15/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen …the Right Wing media is neither exposed for being complicit in the scandal, nor has to face the embarrassment/shame of sycophantically backing/peddling a corrupt POTUS/party/ideology,... 16/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen …..and the personally invested constituent base feels morally exonerated,…..17/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen …..and gets to shout one of the loudest, double middle fingered “I told you so’s” ever to the libs, the MSM, and the never Trumpers. 18/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen So with all of this on the line, a political solution doesn’t necessarily look likely. But even if it was, one thing to keep in mind is that even if Trump was to immediately be impeached today, that would give Pence a year and a half as president. 19/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen And if people were willing/able to hold their nose and give Trump a chance, you can assume that those same people (as well as many others who couldn’t come to support Trump) would have a much easier time supporting Pence who could be worse than Trump. 20/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen Plus, right now Trump is a known commodity, he’s corrupt/damaged goods to around 60% of the country. If Pence replaced an impeached Trump, you could see a narrative where just by contrast to Trump’s 2½-year dumpster fire of a presidency,…21/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen …..that Pence would look presidential, professional, and competent…which could result in many swing voters thinking, “he did fine in the 1 ½ years after replacing Trump, let’s see what he could do with a full term”. 22/
@documentaryfund @drdredel @tammyleitzel @MatthewFeyen With all of this as a backdrop, unfortunately, it’s very possible that the best and possibly only option, is to vote Trump (and Pence) out in 2020, watch all of his political protection evaporate, and see him finally face accountability. 23/
