ETA since some people are reading this very literally: this doesn’t mean that you don’t need to listen to criticism. Just that criticism from someone who’s unreasonable, doesn’t even know you, or is otherwise untrustworthy is probably not worth getting stressed over

I’ve seen a lot of talk about suicide this weekend, and a lot of “call a hotline”. Which is absolutely one good solution. But as someone who has been down this road many times myself, I know it’s not that simple. So here’s a thread for folks struggling with suicidal thoughts:
First off: wait. Press pause on whatever plan you’re making. Promise yourself each time that you have suicidal thoughts that you’ll wait at least 3 days (or a week, or a month, or a year - whatever feels manageable) before taking any action.
Ask yourself if your basic needs are met. Are you hungry? Have you been sleeping? Have you been drinking water? As silly as it will feel in the moment, those things can have a big impact on your mental health if other factors are already bringing you down.

Every once in a while, sexual assault hits the media in a big way. And yet we hardly ever elevate the work of advocates for victims of sexual violence, who work day in and day out to make a better world & are rarely heard. There are lots of constructive things you can do to help.
Did you know that most rapes reported to law enforcement are pretty much ignored? Rape kits not tested, witnesses not interviewed, reports not even written. Do you know what this looks like locally for you?

Reading the very cool "Learned Representation for Scalable Vector Graphics" paper about learning a latent space of fonts, by @iraphas13, @hardmaru, @douglas_eck (thread)

This model deals with fonts as vector path data. That's what all OpenType fonts are actually represented as: TrueType or PostScript paths, which are essentially the same as SVG paths. Sequences of straight line segments and bezier curves.
These paths encode the outlines of character glyphs. For example, for an "o" character you have all the curve segments of both the outer and inner outlines of the o shape separately.

I have spent many, many hours on the @davidludwigmd study, probably digging deeper into some aspects of the raw data more than almost anyone. It is a interesting study to think about, and I am hooked on it.

I also think that I have discovered at least one problem. 1/16
In their article, Dr. Ludwig and colleagues report that subjects who lost "12% (within 2%)" of their weight were randomized to a low-carb, moderate-carb, or high-carb group. This seems to be incorrect. 39% of the people randomized seem not to have met the 12+-2% target. 2/16
I also could not find anywhere in the study that stated that this target was not met when subjects were randomized, even though they were so randomized. 3/16

People ask me about intro to GPU mining which is crazy because I am a lawyer who plays with computers in his "free time". IF you mine with GPUs in your house A) you will burn it down B) you will lose **ALL** your money. Now let's get started.
This is the best motherboard I've found for n00bs such as myself because you don't have to tweak the bios settings.
1) if you have never built a computer before you need to either a) buy a gaming pc and at the very least upgrade the ram, harddrive and power supply or b) grab a cheap motherboard and build a Linux (preferred) or Windows PC. Keep in mind that Windows kills people.. Choose wisely
