A YA novel pulled from publication three months ago after accusations of racial insensitivity has been revised, and will be published in November. nytimes.com/2019/04/29/boo…
This outcome isn't all that uncommon: Someone gets called out for an upcoming piece of media. They pull it to make changes and let things die down. It gets tweaked and released after a cool-down period.
In this case in particular, this outcome isn't terribly surprising—when the controversy hit, Zhao said she had asked her publishers not to go forward with the book "at this time."
A lot of the pushback against Zhao's critics was pretty apocalyptic—folks were talking about the book being killed, and Zhao's career being destroyed. But again, that's not how these things usually work out, and not how they worked out this time.
