The weaponisation of anti-semitism is not hyperbole. Here's Tony Blair backing Theresa May's plan for a Holocaust museum next to parliament, expressing the hope, after years of smears, it will damage the electoral prospects of Jeremy Corbyn (quote below) dumptheguardian.com/world/2019/may…
'Today some of this poison [anti-semitism] is back from the political fringe to parts of the political mainstream. So it’s absolutely right that this new national memorial is situated right next to parliament ... [to] show what happens when racism and prejudice go unchecked'
And might it not be more fitting – and honest – for our politicians to erect a national memorial to the millions of victims of British colonial outrages? A prominent place could be dedicated to the 100,000s of Iraqis killed by Blair's illegal invasion of their country

The Labour party anti-semitism furore in four nutshells:

1. Corbyn ally Diane Abbott has been accused of being soft on anti-semitism – because she failed to block a motion passed by her Hackney constituency that denied Labour is ‘institutionally anti-semitic’
2. However, Labour party rules mean Abbott has no power to intervene in, or block, her constituency party bringing a motion of this kind
3. Unreported by the media, the motion denying that Labour is institutionally anti-semitic was introduced by Jewish members of her constituency party

This is head-in-the-sand stuff. No 'dark forces' in our societies? Not Rupert Murdoch? Tony Blair? The military-industrial complex? Corporate money in our politics? Our societies are full of dark forces. And they're there precisely because we're not supposed to talk about them
What about the 'dark forces' of an army general – he was given anonymity, of course - telling the establishment paper The Times that there would be a military coup before Corbyn was allowed near No 10? No 'dark forces' my foot!
What about ex-MI6 head Sir Richard Dearlove fabricating smears to paint Seumas Milne, Corbyn's main adviser, as a Kremlin asset? That not count as a 'dark force'? Arguments like this deserve only derision

1/ Since I’ve been on this website, I’ve noticed that many seem to not understand what “Jewish” means & perhaps do not understand the history of anti-semitism. . . . .
2/ For example, I have seen many people who seem to believe that “Jewish” is analogous to “Christian,” such that it predominantly describes a religion. That is not the case. There are many secular Jews. . . . .
3/ When anti-semitism is in the news, I see this more & more. So, right now, I want to speak briefly on how “allegiance 2 a foreign power” feeds into a centuries-long anti-Semitic trope, but let me first issue several caveats. I’ll get 2 the history of the trope after the caveats

I’m suspicious of any white Christian leftist whose overriding preoccupation is Israel & Zionism. In my experience, (& this makes sense) Palestinian anti-Zionist activists are substantially less anti Semitic, & much more nuanced, thoughtful & compassionate than white American 1s
It’s just a thing I’ve noticed in 12 years of anti Zionist activism, organizing, researching & writing—people actively affected (Palestinian, Lebanese, Iraqi etc people) are substantially more good faith, and less incidentally anti-Semitic than American & European leftists
While all Jewish leftists feel shame, some feel such a great shame about Israel & Zionism, that they adopt weird self hating Jewish ideas,but that’s very different from the other groups.

[Thread] Based on recent discussions with @SamuelSokol, @TarikCyrilAmar, and @AuschwitzMuseum over the continued debates regarding the "naming" of concentration camps in Poland, I've decided it's time for a thread, b/c this is not about history but the present in Poland.
What has many Poles (and state-run museums) up in arms, is ANY connection of the word "Poland" with Holocaust sites (and more broadly behavior- hence the "correction" above.) They particularly rail against the term "Polish" death or concentration camps. edition.cnn.com/2018/02/01/eur…
The argument is that Poles did not establish or run these camps...which is absolutely correct. But the problem is, no one really thinks Poles built Auschwitz, etc. Sure, there are ignorant people out there or some students, but I defy you to find a scholar making this argument.

Anti-Semitism predates Israel, predates the Holocaust, predates the Inquisition, the Crusades, the Romans. It has been a persistent drumbeat throughout history. Those who use the most-modern excuses to hate or scapegoat Jews are simply another beat in an ancient rhythm.
Anti-Semitism is the most ancient of conspiracy theories, one that adapts to every era. From right to left, anti-Semitism seeks out Jews, defines them as a power far beyond their real numbers, then denies them humanity, nationhood, legitimacy, and in many cases life itself.
Those who believe Israel should be condemned above all nations, who are ignorant of history beyond the latest headline, should take a look at the words being used to condemn “Zionism” and see them in context of a long line of excuses to keep anti-Semitism alive.
