Unbelievable bit of womb bothering in Starbucks at services . A pregnant woman got her Caramel Macchiato and the guy behind the counter said

‘Oh , it’s for you . Do you want me to make a decaf?’

She said ‘No, thanks’

Him ‘No I should because caffeine is bad for the baby’
Her ‘It’s fine I have one a day’

Him ‘But...you shouldn’t’

Me *almost spontaneously combusting* ‘Are you a man , telling a woman what she should and shouldn’t have during a pregnancy?

Then he says

‘Oh just because it’s bad for the baby so that’s why I’m saying it’
Me ‘Unbelievable. Stop it’

Then he continues to try and justify policing a complete stranger for 5 minutes. He was maybe 30 years old max.

Are they also doing Ob/Gyn training at Starbucks these days?

A thread of harassment in several parts

1AM Northern Line

Having finished my late night shows I get on the train at Leicester Sq as do 2 young women in their early 20’s . Following them on is a drunk man not wearing a coat about 6ft & talking at them.
They are nervously responding , politely , in that way that women do when they want to make a situation ok. He starts saying ‘come back to mine I have a garden and a roof terrace’ at this point he is stood up. The girls clock me & I monitor the situation.
He then begins to ask them where they are from then , where they live , one of the girls says ‘don’t tell him’ & the other changes the conversation. This man is being indulged because it’s late at night and he is a threat. He repeatedly asks them where they live.

WOMEN IN COMEDY a thread

We are just trying to exist and tell our stories in a framework that punishes us for our femininity and also punishes us for not conforming to it. We are told our stories don’t matter, our careers don’t matter in comparison to men
We are reviewed with contemptible conscious and unconscious bias. We are trolled by those reviewers under the guise of news, even when one of us is murdered. When a female comic does something well we are told that they are the best female at it and all others should be like that
On television we can be literally be reduced to tits.
When we complain about it we get stonewalled & told we are ‘difficult’. Our work gets taken away. We are made to compete against our contemparies & friends for one chair at the table.

1. An interesting thing about #services trade in the context of #Brexit is that we need to remember that services imports directly create jobs. Economists always like imports, but public debate focuses on jobs coming from exports. #Services are different. Let me explain why.
2. Under the GATS, when a foreign services company establishes a subsidiary in the UK and sells services to locals, that's an import of services for the UK under #Mode3. But to sell services to locals, the business needs to employ locals. So imports directly create jobs in the UK
3. Eurostat data shows that around 2.6 million service sector employees in the UK get their paychecks from foreign controlled companies. It's hard to get a break down of exactly how much of that is European, but it's far to assume that it's substantial.

When I was kid in Chile, we used to buy candy at this little corner store. I remember the guy who owned it because he gave me an ice cream on my birthday. And he let us neighborhood kids borrow his soccer ball. That was a really big deal to us. One morning the store was closed.
Maybe it was the next day. Maybe a week later, the store reopened. But there was a different guy behind the counter. And the kids in the neighborhood said we shouldn’t go there anymore. They were extremely serious about it.
The new guy had wanted the store. Old guy wouldn’t sell it. But all it took was a phone call to the police. The old guy had been bad-mouthing Pinochet. They said he was a criminal. My dad said don’t ask anymore.
I was 6. I don’t know what happened to him. Chances are, no one does

Bare with me, I’m gonna talk about my local for a long minute. Probably because I’m trying to write whilst not being able to. But I’m pretty focused on the beauty of so many misfits coming together:
The first time I cried in there, two years ago, the barmaid wrote “We love you” on a coaster and slid it across the bar to me. I hadn’t really spoken to anyone in there at that point. But I guess she recognised my face. I still have that coaster, mounted on my fridge, in fact.
I was still new to the neighbourhood when one of the barmen took my credit card, saw my name, and said “You Turkish?” I froze. Honestly kinda panicked. Then he said his name—Turkish first and last. “There aren’t many of us in Bed Stuy,” he told me.

Jimin wouldn’t allow himself to be trapped on his shift for any longer than necessary.

“Go, go,” Taehyung hurried, taking Jimin’s apron to let him slip out from behind the counter more quickly. Jimin decided he could get the grounds out from under his nails at home.
This morning had been absolute hell. Two girls ordered seven drinks, Jimin made them all only for them to say they were supposed to be with almond milk.

‘Oh I’m so sorry,’ was he all he had legally been allowed to say at the time, while his mind had far more colorful ideas.
With Jimin officially clocked out, he slumped on the customer side of the now empty service counter, looking to his friend with tired eyes.

“You wanna grab dinner later?”
“I can’t, remem—?
“Ah, right...”

Jimin’s disappointment vanished as Taehyung suddenly smiled to himself.

update: I got Somali food from Mogadishu on Orleans. It was delicious!
I had a moment of inadvertently acting ignorant and having to check myself. When I got there, there were like a dozen young men in there talking in Arabic and sitting in every one of the few booths & seats. I was kind of confused and disappointed that i wouldn’t be able to sit.
