used @minimaxir's colab version where I could tweak the temperature and get it out of its paper rut
i've found that if i ask it again, the neural net will change its mind.

There's now a subreddit that's populated entirely by neural nets who are themselves simulating other subreddits.

They're sometimes kind to each other, sometimes awful, and they keep trying to ban each other's posts.

This neural net (GPT-2) was originally trained on pages linked to on reddit, so this is like coming home to roost.
The /r/totallynotrobots bot is doing a particularly good job

In /most/ regions (in England) the LibDems *do* have the best chance in the #EUelection2019 /however/ treating each region each region the same is naive and wrong. There are small regions (3-5 seats) and large regions (8-10 seats) and they can be treated differently.
In a small region, tactical voting necessitates targeting a single party - and it should be the party that has the most natural support in that region i.e. the one that has the best chance of winning and the most people would be comfortable voting for if asked to vote tactically.
From the polling and tactical voting calculators I've seen, most are simply looking at the base voting intentions and selecting the highest - none of them are asking or trying to work out which party tactical voters would be most comfortable voting for.

Hospitals and schools are swathed in barbed wire. Thousand-dollar surveillance cameras hang along shuttered shopping streets. The stress on the population is palpable.
After a trip to Kashgar in October, I found old footage I had from 2009. Here’s a video of worshipers streaming into the Id Kah mosque back then. Now during Jummah there’s no call to prayer and almost no worshipers.

Pretty much all startups/young founders struggle with firing, but we don't talk nearly enough about it.

It's one of the most difficult parts of leadership, but we *can* make it less painful… Here's the process/advice I share regularly with founders. <thread>
0/ To learn to fire well, you must:

- Accept your responsibility as a manager. Avoid externalizing the blame & being stuck in paralysis.
- Balance being human/kind <> upholding accountability & performance. Empathy & listening skills will take you far.

#1 rule: No one should ever be surprised with a "you're fired."

That's how you create disgruntled employees, embarrassing Glassdoor reviews, dip in team morale, etc.

An out-of-the-blue firing is a failing on the *manager's* part, not the employee's.

2/ Touchscreen voting machines—both w/ & w/o so-called Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATS)—are a disaster bc, among other reasons, voters lack X-ray vision and thus can’t know if the vote as recorded inside the machine matches the VVPAT and their intended selections.
3/ With touchscreen voting machines, regardless of a VVPAT, the only thing actually counted as your vote is whatever is recorded as your vote INSIDE the machine, which you can’t actually verify due to your lack of x-Ray vision.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the launch of Microsoft Visual C++ 1.0 (1993). This was a very exciting and pretty innovative product at the time. It was also my second product release and I was just a kid so it was pretty memorable for me! Indulge me a bit 1/ Excerpt from InfoWorld February 22, 1993. Headline
It was the first Windows-based development environment for C++, but more important (haha, this was my part) it had the first C++ class library for C++, Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC). Wheeee! Microsoft had really fallen behind Borland in tools/languages—this was catch up!
MFC had a whole interesting backstory in that it was originally to be a cross-platform library across DOS, MAC, OS/2 (!), and Windows (and later 32 bit Windows)—called Afx. We spent a year trying to make that work but it didn't (slow, fat, ugly).
