If it weren’t for the shameful efforts by @realDonaldTrump to abandon our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico, and the Senate GOP refusal to stand up to the president, the Senate-passed disaster relief bill that the House just approved could have been approved months earlier.
Fortunately, Senate Democrats remained resolute and ensured that Puerto Rico will be treated as fairly as the other disaster-impacted areas in this bill.
Senate GOP should view these last 5 months as a lesson: carrying the president’s water—even when they know he’s wrong—is a futile exercise that needlessly hurts Americans. The quicker Senate GOP learn that lesson—the better our chances to avoid unnecessary risks to our country.
