One of the prior tendencies of M,SW was to do parodies or episodes loosely based (just enough to avoid litigation) of movies and other series, so we opted against doing that. We wanted to make the show stand on its own and tell its own stories rather than reaching out to --
-- borrow or nod to other sources. I think the closest we ever came was with Incident in Lot 7, which was not a story based on Psycho, which would've been a no-no, but rather was about Jessica being invited to Universal to consult about the adaptation of one of her books --
-- which put her in the lovely position I knew well of dealing with execs who don't know what they're doing, and while she's there a murder is committed in the still-standing house Hitchcock used to shoot Psycho. So it's a very meta storyline.
