One of the problems faced by M,SW and other crime/detective shows is that there were some writers who would basically just recycle stories/premises from one show to another. Which was one of the reasons why M,SW had become rather formulaic. Some writers came in with the --
-- thinnest and least imaginative premises one can think of. One day when David was busy I took a pitch from a freelancer who came in, sat on the couch opposite me and when I asked him for his story, he said "Amnesia."

"Okay," I said, already anguishing over cliché premise --
-- "what about it?"

He said it again. "Amnesia!"

"Okay," I said, "amnesia, aardvark, things that begin with the letter A, what's the story?"

"I don't know," he said, "but we can figure it out." One word was literally all he had for his "story."

Booted him out the door.
