It's actually kind of hard for me to watch that show, although I love it. It's like watching my younger self make all the garbage decisions I made all over again and for many of the same (but far less dramatic) reasons

CBP would not say which subcontractor was involved. But a Microsoft Word document of CBP's public statement, sent Monday to Washington Post reporters, includes the name "Perceptics" in the title."

vox.com/the-goods/2019… Hmmmm….. What strikes me, reading this article, is how much the “zero waste” movement is predicated on drastically increasing women’s unpaid domestic labor. I’m a sucker for “being resourceful”, but that usually just means “a woman does more work”.
Women fighting over whether zero waste should mean buying reusable products or learning to make your own by recycling your tampons or whatever, feels a bit like any other movement geared around the idea that virtue is to be found in making women work more for no money.
Just really interesting no one seems particularly concerned about men generating trash. Individualistic environmentalism is plugged directly into the idea that domestic labor is women’s work.

We ran into someone on the trail today. Can you see who it was? A dog team runs down a snowy trail in a blue twilight. In the distance, a moose stands in a snowbank.
Moose are a natural enemy of dog teams. If they’re off the trail, or the snow is shallow enough that they can trot away, then everything’s fine. If they feel threatened, though, they’ll attack the dogs. It probably has to do with their instincts regarding wolf packs.
In fact, one of the things we went over at the Iditarod rookie meeting was what to do if we had to kill a moose in self-defense while racing. (Answer: You stop and gut the moose. Any teams that reach you have to help. This way, people from local villages can retrieve the meat.)

1. There's been a lot of news lately about people in the Autonomous Vehicle industry realizing the problem they're trying to solve is much trickier than they initially hoped.

I think there’s a good analogy in a similar technology: self-checkouts.
2. Self-checkouts have been around a while. Companies have been working on them since 1984, and they’ve been in stores around the country for nearly two decades. As you well know if you’ve used one, they also still kinda suck. vox.com/the-goods/2018…
3. This is not for a lack of financial incentives! A company that could figure the technology out would be able to replace billions a year in labor. Even a marginal improvement on the tech would be incredibly valuable as current systems feature staggering losses to shoplifters

I do not think this would ever be acceptable for the EU
But I understand Ivan as saying you did not even try that, for example accepting the principles of the four freedoms but maybe with a safeguard clause...
