This is why televised hearings matter. Naming and shaming. She should have quit rather than make that argument. I definitely would have. Since she didn’t, her face and name should be torrentially flooded around social media as a deterrent to others. Don’t ever do shit like that.
Young lawyers in the future should be thinking of this example, and balance “but if I quit my job to stand on this principle, I might not get another” against “If the whole world sees me argue something inhuman, I’ll definitely never work again.”
To be clear, I’m talking about televised COURT hearings. There are good reasons to have some congressional testimony in a closed setting, with transcripts, when the point is to make a record.

But our weird tradition that lawyers get to argue mostly in secret should really end.
And yes, I speak from experience. It is scary to get up and walk the fuck away from your life and career. But I’ve never regretted it. I have my soul intact.
